Spotted.

Things I have seen in Amherst in the past few weeks:

  • A woman barking at another woman in the middle of town. Literally barking. I was looking around because I thought it was a dog, and it was a a woman.
  • A guy at my bus stop practicing what appeared to be sword-fighting moves with his umbrella.
  • A plethora of undergrads wearing really short shorts and sweatshirts. If it's cold enough to wear a sweatshirt, it's probably not warm enough to wear shorts.
Welcome back, me.

Gaga for Gaga

This is absolutely, 100% the best photo I have seen in a long, long time.

Thanks, EW, for bringing this to my attention.

Dbags.

I know it's been awhile, the last week has been crazy with getting back settled in to life in Amherst. Classes have started, and I'm excited to finally be talking about sports everyday. It's good to see people again, and nice to meet new people. I'm enjoying a few days of peace before the semester really takes off, but not that many days... I have a presentation already on Wednesday.

There's already a damper on the start of the school year, though, because apparently someone finds it acceptable to take other people's textbooks. We have a lounge for MBA students in our building, and every MBA has a mailbox in that lounge. In the past we have left books, food, electronics, whatever in the lounge, because we felt it was safe there. Apparently it's not anymore, since three books were taken from mailboxes in the lounge yesterday, all of which belonged to me. I had left two books for a first year student in her mailbox, which she was going to buy from me, and those were taken. In addition, I left two textbooks in my own mailbox for about an hour when I went to lunch. When I came back, one of them was gone. I have no idea what happened, or why the other book was left there, but I have now lost a substantial amount of money due to losing the money I would have gained from selling the two books AND having to replace a book I'd already purchased. Basically, FML.

Also, I think people who steal are terrible. Especially books from other poor students who pay serious money for them and don't really have the funds to replace them very easily. You want to steal a few books from Donald Trump? Be my guest. But not a student. The worst part is probably never figuring out the punk who did it.

Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down: September 4, 2009

How is it September 4 already? Holy crap, it's going to be Christmas before we know it.

Thumbs Up:
Google, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. You can now add sports schedules to your Google calendar, so with just the click of my mouse, I now have the Steelers & Penguins schedules automatically filled in. Planning my life around them just became easier.

Thumbs Down: There is still a week left before the Steelers game. Don't know if I can handle the wait.

I ask you...

... is there any athlete who looks as good as Roger Federer while playing their sport? I mean, you've got athletes that look good off the court/field/ice. You've got athletes who probably look good while playing, but our view is obstructed by helmets and/or bulky padding. And you've got athletes who look good regardless, but they get really sweaty and gross while playing (which naturally should happen, and I get concerned when it doesn't), so that cancels out their looking good-ness.

But Federer... he always has those impeccably coordinated outfits, and his hair barely looks out of place even at the end of a match. He doesn't even break a sweat. (I attribute that to the fact that his opponents give him roughly the same level of competition I would give him.)

I'd say maybe Tiger Woods might come close, but golfers aren't real athletes.

Hot QBs, part two.

I've discussed this in the past, and my feelings on certain QBs' attractiveness are well-documented among my friends. (I just don't get the Peyton Manning thing. DO NOT GET IT.)

But this article, found via Pittsburgh Sports & Mini Ponies (best blog name ever, btw), is just... wow.

Our very own Big Ben is listed as the 6th most handsome quarterback in the NFL.

Take that, Tom Brady.

Home sweet home.

Back in Amherst after three long months away! And what gorgeous weather to come back to. Low 70s, sunny skies, and cool nights. And, even better, my own bed, my own kitchen, my own bathroom... It's good to be back! I miss DC like crazy already, but I'm excited to get back to work and classes.

I was welcomed back to New England by news of another potential Tom Brady injury and a Blink 182 concert in Hartford on Saturday night. I had been craving a Blink concert all summer - I saw them three summers in a row during college and had a blast every time. The last time I saw them was actually the "Pop Disaster Tour" in 2002 with (soundtrack of my summer) Green Day. I actually went to primarily see Blink that night. I was a Green Day fan but not a devotee, but Green Day went on first, and by the end of their set I didn't care anymore about seeing Blink. Billie Joe completely stole my heart right away from Mark, Tom, & Travis.

I hate to say it, but the trio of pop punk rockers got upstaged again this summer. It was a strange night for a Blink show though, as DJ AM had just passed away the night before, which I didn't even know about until Mark almost broken down on stage... so what I got was a very subdued, very sad Blink, instead of the ADD, immature and insane Blink I was used to. Still a great show though, and the tributes they did to DJ AM were very touching.

But I thought Green Day made me feel old? At least I wasn't among the oldest people at that show. At Blink, I definitely was. We were asked to buy beer for teenagers on several different occasions. I talked to a guy who was going to be a sophomore in college. And dear 17 year old girls - GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. Stumbling around a concert venue being supported by your girlfriends or puking in a bag of chips is not attractive.

So that was my weekend. :)

I really should get to my law homework soon. Class starts a week from today! Enjoy your Tuesdays, folks!

It is hockey season yet?

The second photo on this page is why Bill Guerin is so bad ass.

If you haven't seen the portion of the Pens DVD where he is wearing a microphone during practice, you are seriously missing out.

Fall sports need to start ASAP.

Ugh.

Having a somewhat rough morning here today. Dealing with work crap, commute crap, etc. general crap... I keep repeating to myself "four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days four more days."

I can make it, right? Right?

Aug 24, 2009

I could not make this up if I tried.

These things only happen to me, I swear.

Scene: me in the ladies room.

I was rearranging myself after going to the bathroom, and I must have bumped my security card clip, which is normally attached to my pants. I somehow managed to knock the clip off my pants and into the toilet, which then promptly automatically flushed, leaving me with my pants halfway down staring at the toilet where my security card was just a split second earlier.

Yes, I flushed my security fob down the toilet.

And while I was watching it, for that split second I remember thinking, "There's no way that'll flush. Oh no. There it goes."

How does that happen?!

I then had to wait in the lobby for a few minutes for someone to come out, because I couldn't get back inside without my fob, and then go to the office manager to tell her the story and watch her disbelief and assure her that no, there is no way I could possibly make this up.

Maintenance is now in the bathroom making sure that my bad luck doesn't cause the toilet to overflow and attempt to pull out my security card. I was assured by the office manager that they will sanitize it before returning it to me. Thank God I'm only here four more days, or I'd be known as "Security Card Flush Girl."

Oh man.
